South Tulsa Baptist Church; Campos de Sueños Opening

September Short-term Mission Trip

Once again, we had the opportunity to work alongside our friends from South Tulsa Baptist Church and be a blessing to the people of Santa María de Jesús. More and more families from this village are enjoying clean water thanks to their efforts. Not only do these families have clean water, but also many of them are coming to know the Lord Jesus as their Saviour. Among the 30 family visits made, about 20 people made professions of faith.

The highlight of our week was the opening ceremony for Campos de Sueños. After about a year and half of hard work, the building was ready to go. Some small details are still pending, but finally the day came. The building was packed with the children who regularly attend the feeding program, their parents, people from both Aposento Alto (local church in Santa María) and IDC, previous volunteers,
representatives of the Guatemalan Biblical Seminary, local officials,  and of course, the South Tulsa Baptist Church whose involvement helped make this project possible.

The ceremony began with all the children singing. Pastor Bill Losasso from Pathways Community church then welcomed the crowd and was followed by some words of gratitude from Mario Miño, the director of Campos de Sueños.

Pastor Gabriel Cuca Vicente of Aposento Alto  was recognized for graduating seminary and completing his Ordination.

Following this, on behalf of South Tulsa Baptist Church,  Robert Shain and Pastor Ted Kersh recognized  Pastor Mike Watkins from IDC for his hard work and vision that brought this project to completion.

Seeing the building completed and packed with people was a spectacular sight. For those of us who saw its humble beginnings as a empty lot, it was especially exciting to see a fully equipped building ready to feed more than 600 children; such a great step forward towards a greater vision. And of course, seeing the smiles and excitement of the children who will be fed there soon. We praise God for giving us the privilege of being part of such a great miracle. A miracle that seeks to impact lots of lives of children who one day will become Christian leaders in their community and make the village of Santa María de Jesús a better place.
